Arrival and public transport

If you are travelling by train to Vienna the following train companies offer frequent trips to Vienna:

The international airport Wien Schwechat is located ca. 20 km outside of the city center. The following public transport can be used to travel from and to the airport:

There are three lines which go from and to the airport from different parts of the city. Full price tickets are available from €11.00.

Line VAL 1 runs every 30 minutes between Vienna West Station via Vienna Central Station to Vienna Airport.
Line VAL 2 runs between Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz to Vienna Airport.
Line VAL 3 connects Donaustadt with Vienna Airport.

Tickets are available at www.oebb.at, at the ÖBB ticket counter at the airport, at ticket machines and via the ÖBB ticket app. Tickets for the RJX train from the airport to Vienna Central Station are available from €4.60 for adults.

The City Airport Train goes 16 minutes nonstop from the airport to Vienna City Center (Wien Mitte, Landstraße). A single trip is available from €14.90.

Transfers from and to the airport for a maximum of 4 people are available for €42.00. The phone number to call the taxi is +43-1-40100.

Vienna has a well-developed public transport network with buses, trains, trams and underground lines. A single ticket costs €2.40. Apart from single tickets there are also passes for 24, 48 and 72 hours. Tickets are available online and at the ticket machines at most underground stations.

Tickets purchased from the Wiener Linien allow you to use all modes of travel (underground, buses, trams, S-Bahn) except for ÖBB trains within the central Zone of the city. Further information can be found by clicking on the links below:

Bikesharing

WienMobil Rad is a public bikesharing service offered by the Wiener Linien that allows everyone to move around by bike in Vienna at low cost.
Regular price is €0.75 per 30 minutes. The bikes can be unlocked via the nextbike App.

Taxi

The company Taxi40100 offers rides with Hybrid- and electronic vehicles called Green Taxi. To order a taxi you can call +43-1-40100.   

Barrier-free transportation

All bus routes and almost all streetcar routes use low floor vehicles and folding ramps. Most subway stations can be accessed via elevators or ramps. To check in advance if an elevator is operational you can call +43 1 7909-100 

Visa and entry requirements

As an EU national, a citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland you can freely travel to Vienna and do not need a Visa for entering the Republic of Austria.

Certain non-EU citizens need to apply for a Visa that will allow them to travel freely within the Schengen area. For the RC21 a short-stay Visa (Visa category C) is recommended as it allows travel within the Schengen countries for up to 90 days.

The application period begins six months in advance and ends four weeks before the start of travel.
