About us

This contribution provides IJURR readers and RC21 conference participants with an overview not only of how Vienna addresses inequalities across different domains today. It also traces the historical roots of the model and addresses the challenges it is facing. Given the complex and rich legacy, as well as the multiple domains in which inequality is structured, this contribution is necessarily a synthesis of many fragmented contributions on a limited, selected set of fields. We will focus on three of them that have emerged as particularly crucial for understanding new fault lines in the production of inequality: migration, demographics and political representation, housing and segregation, and environmental justice and climate change. Our choice doesn´t diminish the importance of other domains that contribute to the consolidation or production of inequalities; rather, it focuses on “relatively” new and complementary developments to more consolidated approaches.
